How to set burglar alarms at night? | A helpful guide

How to set burglar alarms at night? | A helpful guide

How you set up your burglar alarm will depend on the type of alarm you’ve got. For most, you’ll either have to manually set them up every night or you can programme them to fit your needs. Usually, the process is similar for all burglar alarms. Here are the steps for setting it up manually:

  1. Ensure all of the doors and windows are locked so that when somebody tries to break-in, the alarm can be triggered
  2. Next, you will have to type the security code into your alarm
  3. Finally, find the ‘instant’ button and press it. If it beeps 3 times and there is a red LED light, that means the alarm is set up

That’s it. It’s really that simple. Only 3 steps! However, we also know how frustrating it can be to not know how to do something so important, therefore we’ve spent some time looking into how a burglar alarm is set up at night and put together an article for you to follow along.

How does the night setting on burglar alarms work?

It allows you to programme your burglar alarm to work exactly the way you want it to work. This is perfect because we all have different needs.

For example, if you have pets at home, you might want to turn off motion sensors in that specific room where they are sleeping and keep them on for the rest of the house.

You also wouldn’t want the burglar alarm to go off at night when going to the restroom so the night setting allows you to adjust it. This makes burglar alarms really flexible for any situation and environment.

However, keep in mind that you still need to keep the shock sensors on, but this is something you can programme in the settings so there is no need to worry.

How important is it to set a burglar alarm at night?

It’s important to set a burglar alarm at night and we could not recommend it more! This not only keeps you safe when you are the most vulnerable to burglars but also shows insurance companies that you had protection in place.

This means that you will be allowed to make a claim. If you failed to set up your burglar alarm at night when an incident happened, you might not be able to get help.

We are also aware that some nights people want to go out. This may mean that your house is empty and open to opportunists. However, this can be prevented by turning on your burglar alarm at night.

We also know that it can be easy to forget to do this when you’re having fun, which is why programming your alarm to do this every night is even more important.

Not to mention most burglaries do happen during the nighttime. If the thief decides to break in while you are sleeping, the ringing burglar alarm will scare them away, but if not, the authorities and your neighbours will be notified, and you will be able to save your valuables.

Burglar alarm going off at night

Your burglar alarm might be going off at night for many different reasons. We don’t think you should assume that there aren’t any intruders.

Instead, check your burglar alarm app and your CCTV camera footage if you’ve got one. If you notice somebody suspicious, don’t waste your time. Phone the police and get in touch with other people. Staying alone can be dangerous.

However, in some circumstances, the ringing alarm may be false. This could be because the alarm itself is damaged or of bad quality. But sometimes it can be as simple as your pet triggering the alarm.

This is because some standard detectors can’t identify animals. In this case, you would need to change them to pet detectors. And as mentioned previously, you need to adjust your night settings to meet these specific needs.

What to do if my pets keep triggering the alarm at night?

The first thing we suggest is that you ensure your burglar alarm has pet motion detectors. Some standard ones don’t have this feature; therefore, you may need to buy them separately.

The second thing we suggest is checking your night settings if your alarm system has it. You could remove the motion sensors where your pets are sleeping but keep the shock ones on.

Many people choose not to install a burglar alarm because they think it’s not possible with pets at home. However, this is a misconception. Don’t risk your safety because of it!

What can cause false alarms at night?

  • Pets: your sensors should be capable of detecting animals, otherwise your pets can easily trigger the alarm and wake you up
  • Low batteries: this is a common one. Usually, the app for your burglar alarm will notify you when you need battery changing so keep an eye out for that
  • Poor installation: sometimes we simply install an alarm in the wrong place. This means that even a slight change in temperature can trigger it. I also know that some systems are hard to install, therefore you may want to ask a professional for help
  • Insects: Bugs in the system could be causing false alarms, therefore it’s important you check it once in a while
  • Old system: maybe it’s time to get a new burglar alarm system?
  • Storms: there might be some natural causes for fake alarms such as storms. This isn’t something you can prevent unless you buy a smart alarm system

You can find more tips in another article we’ve written for those who want to protect their home from burglars, check it out!

We hope this article has been helpful! More and more people are realising the importance of security systems such as burglar alarms and CCTV cameras.

However, not many know how to optimise their usefulness. Hence why people are looking for help online on how to set burglar alarms at night. Sometimes this information isn’t clearly displayed.

We know that most burglaries tend to happen at night, that being the main reason for setting up the alarm at this time. However, there are some other reasons like insurance claims.

The night setting most burglar alarms have is the perfect solution. You can prevent your pets from causing false alarm ringing.

But while you can prevent reasons like that, sometimes false alarms can be caused by other things, such as low batteries, poor installation, insects, an old system, or storms.

Make sure to determine the root cause! However, don’t ignore your alarm ringing at night as there could be actual intruders. Ensure your burglar alarm has been programmed correctly.

How long do supermarkets keep CCTV footage?

How long do supermarkets keep CCTV footage?

The minimum retention time for minor crimes is recommended to be 14 days and the maximum retention time for serious incidents is recommended to be 31 days, however, each supermarket is different.

Some stores are direct about how long they keep their CCTV footage, whereas others just say that they will keep information like this for as long as necessary. Here are some examples from popular retailers in the UK:

    • How long does Asda keep CCTV footage? They keep the CCTV footage in their system for approximately 14 to 60 days (Asda Privacy Centre, 2019). As you can see, that’s more than 31 days but is an acceptable day range.
    • How long does Tesco keep CCTV footage? They will keep the CCTV data for 1 month after its creation (Tesco Privacy Centre, 2021). They have chosen this duration for both small and big crimes.
    • How long does Morrisons keep CCTV footage? They do not actually mention the exact duration. Just that they will hold personal information (Morrisons Privacy Policy, 2021) for as long as they need it and depending on its initial purpose. We can assume that the CCTV footage would be kept within the recommended time frame, however, cannot be 100% sure.
    • How long does Sainsbury’s keep CCTV footage? They are similar to Morrisons. You cannot find an exact duration (Sainsbury’s Group Privacy Policy, 2021) anywhere so all we can do is assume. They mention why they collect CCTV footage and with whom they share it.

This information will be different in every country because each has different data protection laws. Our information is accurate for the supermarkets based in the UK.

In this article, we’ll look at why supermarkets keep CCTV footage, with whom they share it, whether you can ask for this footage and how you can make this request, and whether anyone in these stores actually checks the footage.

Why do supermarkets keep CCTV footage?

According to Sainsbury’s, CCTV footage in supermarkets is used to protect their colleagues, customers, and business whenever incidents and criminal activities occur in their stores, petrol stations, and car parks.

Asda also used CCTV  footage for training and awareness as well as to understand their challenges better. This footage must be deleted after a certain time period.

To whom do supermarkets share their CCTV footage?

Supermarkets share their CCTV footage with the police, local authorities, and government agencies. This is to prevent and deter crime. If you are associated with a law firm or an insurance company, then they can request this information too.

As long as there is evidence that they can actually claim it. In some cases, it might be shared with third-party partners, for example, the CCTV system distributor.

Can I request CCTV footage from a supermarket?

Yes, you have the right to request CCTV footage from a supermarket. You can do this by either writing to the owner of the CCTV system or by asking them verbally.

You have the right to do this under the Data Protection Law so make sure to mention this fact. However, keep in mind that most stores don’t keep their footage for more than 30 days, therefore you might not be able to access it as it could have been deleted.

In some cases, the supermarket might refuse to share the footage with you because other people can be seen in it and that would be breaking their rights.

However, alternative arrangements can be. For example, view it at the shop itself. You should also know that you don’t have to pay for it if you’ve requested the footage within 1 calendar month.

How can I request CCTV footage from a supermarket?

    1. To begin with, you need to identify who owns the camera. If an incident happened within the store, their gas station, or car park, then you would have to get in touch with that store owner. Sometimes the footage you need gets captured by a camera that is not owned by that shop, in which case you’d have to contact somebody else.
    1. ICO has a ‘Subject Access Request‘ that you’ll need to fill out and send to the store This can be used to access personal information that an organisation holds about you, how and where it is used, who they share it with and where they got it from. Make sure they put as much details as possible in this request so that the store can provide you with the footage as soon as possible.
    1. It is also important that you share some form of identification with them as it will prove that you are the actual person seeking sensitive information. The supermarket has the right to decline your request if you refuse to share it with them.

How often do stores check their cameras?

Most stores only check their CCTV cameras after a major incident has happened, such as shoplifting or when an employee has been abused.

This is due to the fact that supermarkets usually don’t have enough money to spend on guards or officers who can monitor their cameras. However, if a supermarket does have enough people monitoring CCTV, then we can assume they see the footage every single day.

Supermarkets have different policies when it comes to CCTV footage, however, all of them must delete it after a certain time has passed.

Most supermarkets choose to keep the footage for a maximum of 60 days, but it can be deleted after 30 days. So, if you want to claim it, you need to keep this in mind and find out what the policy is for that specific supermarket.

While it is your right to access CCTV footage of yourself, this is not possible when other people can be seen in it. In this case, you might be invited to view the footage in person.

Before you can do this, you’ll need to fill out a request form made by the ICO. Whether the request gets approved depends on the information you shared with them and whether the footage still exists in the system. All of these are things you must keep in mind.

What is a KERUI standalone alarm system?

The KERUI standalone system is an audio alarm system that doesn’t need to be wired into your electricity box. The alarm is plugged into a mains socket and the rest of the components work using batteries. It is ideal if you want an alarm system you can take out of the box and set up yourself.

Once the system is set up it works using the batteries (when you purchase the system from Amazon, batteries come with the product so you don’t have to worry about running to the shop and getting some new ones!) This means you don’t have to worry about the electricity going off. It doesn’t connect to your WIFI system either, so you don’t need the internet to use the KERUI alarm.

Why do I need a KERUI wireless alarm system?

Using a security system like a burglar alarm deters burglars. The loud sound the KERUI emits will draw attention to your home and no burglar wants to be spotted trying to break into a home. If you have a KERUI wireless alarm system, your home insurance is likely to cost less. This is because you are demonstrating to your insurance company that you take home security seriously.

What are the features of the KERUI Wireless Security Burglar Door Alarm system Kit?

The KERUI kit contains the audible device, two door/window sensors, two remote controls and a PIR motion detector. The motion sensors will detect movement caused by heat from the infrared sensor and set off the alarm. You can control the system from your remote control/key fob.

Are there any add-ons to the KERUI Alarm wireless system?

Yes. The system supports up to 40 sensors, 10 remote controls and 10 doorbells. That means if you have a large house there is no problem covering numerous doors, windows, and outbuildings. You can also add a doorbell to the system for added security.

Is the KERUI audio horn loud enough?

The KERUI audio horn has a sound level of 15db. This is a very loud level of noise. For example, a plane during take-off emits around 120mb of noise. The sound would certainly attract attention and make a burglar think twice about breaking into your home.

What is the KERUI alarm sensor range?

The company doesn’t give any details about the range, but reading reviews from KERUI customers it looks like the sensors work up to 55 metres and maybe more.

Where can I put a KERUI alarm system?

You can use the KERUI system on almost any building you want to protect. It can be used on:

    • Flats
    • Houses
    • Hotels
    • Shops
    • Garages
    • Sheds
    • Conservatories
    • Out-buildings

They are particularly popular with customers who want to protect sheds and garages, which sometimes get missed from home security systems if they are not attached to the main property.

What’s the KERUI alarm system setup?

The instructions aren’t in clear English, but it isn’t hard to set up. Here’s what you should do:

    • Plugin the audio horn to a plug socket and wait 6 seconds, then unplug it and plug it in again 3 times.
    • Press any button on the remote control to configure it
    • Press the button on the sensors
    • Press the button on the PIR sensor

If you wanted to add a doorbell you must unplug and plug the audio horn 7 times and then press the bell sign on the doorbell button.

The remote control/key fob has 4 red buttons:

    • The first button is an emergency button. If you press this manually in an emergency the horn will sound
    • The second button is to disarm the system
    • The third button is to arm the system
    • The last button is to test the doorbell

To return the configuration to factory reset unplug and plug the audio horn 10 times. The kit comes with the appropriate batteries which are 2 x 12 volts.

You can also watch KERUI’s official YouTube instruction video which explains the setup with the help video.

Can the KERUI wireless system be set up by a non-professional?

Yes. Anyone who carries out DIY will be able to fix up this system easily. All you need to do is affix the sensors to your windows or doors and put up the audio horn in a location that suits you.

Is the KERUI Wireless Security Door Alarm System Waterproof?

Yes. Any components that are on the outside of your home are weatherproof and will withstand rain, wind, and snow.

Are there any disadvantages to the KERUI system

The only one we could find is the fact that the alarm will ring when it is being armed and disarmed. It doesn’t do it silently, but then again you probably won’t be coming in and out of your home so much that it will get annoying.

Why should I buy a KERUI alarm system?

According to the Police, most burglars will avoid a home with an alarm and so purchasing a KERUI wireless alarm kit is an affordable way to add security to your home. The KERUI system has an excellent audio alarm, and you can also add sensors to the system if required. The kit is easy to configure and simple to install.

Do Security System Signs and Stickers Prevent Break Ins?

Do Security System Signs and Stickers Prevent Break Ins?

Installing a home security system is one of the best investments of your time and money because they effectively prevent criminals from breaking into your house.

Many people choose to add extra security by getting some security signs to show the thief that they will be caught if they attempt a burglary. However, there are also homeowners who cannot afford a good CCTV or burglar alarm, therefore they choose to get a fake security sign.

But does a fake burglar alarm or surveillance sign really deter criminals? There are many ways in which we can think about this question.

Some burglars might actually believe that the security sign is real and move to the next target, however, more experienced thieves might double check whether what you have put on is actually real. In this article, we will have a deeper look at the benefits and risks of putting on a security sign.

What’s the Difference Between Real Security Signs and Fake Security Signs?

Real security signs are the ones you put on after actually installing a security camera or a burglar alarm. They are a complement to the existing security systems in your house. A fake security sign is something you put on without purchasing a security product. These are there to fool the thief and warn them to not break in.

However, you should think twice before opting in for a fake one. This is because thieves could easily find out that they are fake. With no surveillance system in place, you could end up in big trouble. While there are many signs available online that look legit, the company that owns that sign could sue you for copyright infringement.

Potential Benefits of Using a Security Sign to Prevent Burglaries

    • You could save lots of money: this is one of the biggest reasons why people get a fake security sign and leave out getting a home security system. It is true that a CCTV camera or a burglar alarm could cost you hundreds of pounds while you could get a fake sign for free. However before deciding on this option, please consider the potential risks that come with it as you could end up losing all that money anyways.

    • An effective deterrent: especially if you are using it as an additional protection method. While we are not sure about the effectiveness of using a fake one, we know that a real one is helpful.

Potential Risks of Using a Fake Security Sign

    • Thieves can easily spot the fake: you might get lucky if a less experienced thief comes across your house, but it’s still possible for an experienced one to plan a break in. This means that they will realise that there are no home security systems in place and that the sign is simply there to fool them. You might think that you’re safe, but you are in for a surprise when the burglar gets in and there’s nothing to stop them.
    • Copyright infringement: even if you get lucky and none of the burglars realises that the sign is fake, you could run into other problems. By using a fake security sign, you could be breaking copyright law, because you’re publicly displaying a work that is not yours without the permission of the owner. So, while it’s tempting to use a free sign you found online, you should think about the potential risk.

Do ‘Beware of Dogs Signs’ Deter Burglars?

If you already have a large guard dog, such as Akita or Bullmastiff protecting your house, then these security signs will be good deterrents. However, we have to mention again that this might not be effective if you are using a fake one. This used to work well in the past, but burglars have learnt that many people use these as decoration only.

Should You Put Security Stickers Up?

Yes, if you already have a home security system installed. We don’t recommend putting up a fake one because you could run into copyright issues or the burglar might easily spot that it’s a fake, providing you with a false sense of security. If the sign is simply there as an added protection, then these signs can be effective deterrents.

What are Some Other Ways to Prevent Break Ins?

    • Leaving a porch light on: these will alert the burglar that you’re home. It also makes it easier for you to see who’s approaching your front door and act early.
    • Get friendly with your neighbours: this is particularly important if you are not home. They could keep an eye on any suspicious activity, however, make sure that you trust them first, hence why you must get to know them first.
    • Installing front gates: not everyone can do this, however, if you can, we recommend you think about it. These can make it difficult for the thief to gain entry or delay it so that you have enough time to call for help.
    • Be careful about what information you share: whether it’s offline or online, you should think about what kind of information you are sharing and with whom. If some important details get in the wrong hands, you could give the criminal an advantage. Therefore, keeping your personal details safe is an effective deterrent.

We always suggest investing in a good home security system instead of depending on a fake security sign. As we already explained, there are some serious risks when putting on a sign that you found online when you don’t actually have a security camera or a burglar alarm.

There are many security products out there that will fit different budgets. There are still affordable ones that are high quality. You should check out our CCTV blog as well as our burglar alarms blog for more options. Get the security sign, but only as an additional detail. This way even if the burglar assumes that it’s fake, their attempt at breaking in will be failed.

What is CCTV and How Does it Help Protect my Home?

What is CCTV and How Does it Help Protect my Home?

Closed Circuit Television or, as it is better known CCTV is a video surveillance system. Cameras placed in various locations outside or inside a property record what’s going on in the area covered by the camera. The video footage is then stored either on an integral memory card or in a cloud storage facility.

    What is CCTV used for?

CCTV first came to the attention of the public when shops and businesses installed systems to deter theft and burglary. They were also installed in public places like car parks and stadiums. Now you can see them in the streets in town centre locations.

Many homes now use CCTV as a way of deterring burglars. Someone who wants to break into your property is less likely to do so if they know they are being filmed, and the footage can be used in a court case against them. CCTV makes it easier to identify any unwanted visitors to your home.

Another benefit of CCTV comes from your insurance company. Your insurer will see that you are serious about securing your home and in many cases will discount your home insurance policy.

What types of CCTV are available?

There are several types of home CCTV available, and these are wireless CCTV, POE (power over ethernet) connection or wireless CCTV.

    How is CCTV installed?

Below are the connection instructions for each type of CCTV system, this should help you when you are choosing how you want your cameras to be installed.

A wireless connection uses your internet router and works by using a WIFI connection. They are very easy to install and are very popular with DIY enthusiasts who want to install a CCTV system without professional help.

    A POE CCTV system

A POE system is similar to a wired system, but the big advantage is that only one wire (an ethernet cable) is needed to connect your camera to the Network Video Recorder (NVR), even if you have more than one camera. Normally you will need two cables for each camera. You don’t need a professional electrician either.

It’s the ideal system if you have several cameras and you don’t want cables or wires to spoil the aesthetics of the inside or outside of your home.  You should also think about using a POE system if you want your cameras to be placed in locations that aren’t close to a power outlet.

    A wired system

A wired system has all of your cameras wired up to a Digital Video Recorder (DVR box) and so the cables will have to be routed from the camera’s location to the box.

That means if you have 3 or 4 cameras in different locations you will have 3 or 4 wires coming to your DVR box from various places. Wired systems are normally fitted by a professional electrician or a CCTV installation specialist.

    Which system should I choose?

The system you choose will depend on your budget and whether you want to install the system yourself.

A WIFI connection is very easy to set up, but you are dependent on the strength of your WIFI for the system to work properly. If you don’t have a good internet connection, then you can choose either a wired or POE CCTV system.

For example, a POE CCTV system doesn’t need a qualified electrician to install it, but you do get the benefit of not having to rely on your internet connection.

    How does CCTV work?

Your home CCTV system will record the area viewed by your camera. Cameras will either work continually or, will be active when the camera sensor picks up movement or shadow.

If you need to know what the red light is on a CCTV camera, it’s to demonstrate that the camera is recording. Any images are usually stored using a video recorder or a micro-SD card. If you want to store images for more than a few days, then you can use cloud storage.

If you need to prove in court that someone attempted to break into your home, you can use your CCTV images to identify the person who has been apprehended.

How many cameras do I need?

The number of cameras is up to you, but if you want to cover the back and front of your property then you will need more than one camera. If you buy a CCTV system, they will normally come with 2,3 or 4 cameras with the option to buy add-on cameras if required. A standard home CCTV system will usually take up to 6 cameras.

eufy Security, eufyCam 2C Pro Wireless Home Security Add-on Camera, 2K Resolution, 180-Day Battery Life, HomeKit Compatibility, IP67 Weatherproof, Night Vision, and No Monthly Fee.

    Product Description
    • 2K Resolution: When it comes to security, the key is in the detail. See exactly what is happening in and around your home in crisp 2K clarity.

    • Detailed Night Vision: View recordings or live footage in crisp clarity, even at night, for a clear view of who’s there.
    • The Alerts That Matter: Human detection technology enables the camera to intelligently detect body shape and face patterns. Ensuring you are only alerted when a person, and not a stray cat, approaches.
    • Ready for Any Weather: With an IP67 weatherproof-rating, eufyCam 2C Pro is built to withstand the elements.

What should I consider when I am choosing a system?

Your first consideration should be your budget. Decide how much you want to spend and then look at the features and benefits available. You may have to adjust your budget if you want more expensive features such as varifocal lenses or a large picture resolution.

Next, decide whether you want a wired, POE or WIFI connection. A wired connection will cost more because the cameras will need to be installed by a professional. A POE or WIFI system can be installed by a handyperson or a competent DIY enthusiast so installation will be cheaper.

Then look at the camera resolution. Resolution is measured with pixels, so more pixels means a higher resolution and a better, sharper image. Most standard home CCTV systems are either 1080p or 2 megapixels.

Then, pick your lens type. You can choose either a fixed lens or a varifocal. Fixed lenses are more common because varifocal lenses are more expensive.

A fixed lens can’t be adjusted, and they are normally set at a wide-angle. Don’t think though that fixed lenses aren’t any good, because fixed view lenses can give excellent viewing. If you want an adjustable lens, then you can pay more to have varifocals.

There are plenty of excellent home CCTV systems on the market. If you want to know about CCTV, have a look at the product reviews and the blogs we have online before you decide which CCTV system to buy.

Is It Easy to Install a Home Alarm System? | The Perfect Guide

Is It Easy to Install a Home Alarm System? | The Perfect Guide

Did you know that 63% of burglaries happen in properties that don’t have an intruder alarm installed? Considering how easy it is to install a home burglar alarm it seems a pity not to have one when it is such a deterrent.

Having an intruder break into your home doesn’t just mean you lose your possessions. It can also make you uncomfortable and anxious for a long time after the event.

If you have an alarm, a burglar is less likely to take the risk of breaking into your home. The noise and/or flashing lights will draw attention to what’s going on in your property and this is a risk many burglars don’t want to take.

Many people are put off because they think intruder alarm installation is difficult and time-consuming. But there is a wide range of easy to install home alarm systems on the market.

Types of Easy to Install Home Alarm Systems

Wireless alarms are much easier to install than a wired system because you don’t have to run wires to each alarm sensor from the main base. Instead, a wireless system works off your internet connection.

The cheapest type of alarm is a bell only. If the alarm is triggered it will make a very loud ringing noise to attract attention. But the problem with this type of alarm is if you’re away from home you won’t know the alarm is ringing.

Another type of alarm is a dialler alarm. This either uses a sim card or a wire connected to your landline. When the alarm is triggered either you or a nominated keyholder will be informed.

The best type of alarm is a Smart System. This system works with your smartphone or a tablet. It is easier to control and monitor. It means you can connect your devices so that you can turn video cameras on and off and view what’s going on in your home when you’re not in. Smart alarm systems often feature PIR motion sensors which when placed outside your home will detect a moving object.

Read on to find out just how easy it is to install a home alarm system at home. Here we tell you how to install a keypad intruder alarm system and a bell only system.

    Step 1

Make sure all the components are in the box before you start the installation process. If the parts are battery-operated make sure you have the batteries you need, or a charging base is fully charged. A smart kit for example will consist of a smart hub, PIR sensors, a keypad, door and window connectors and a PIR camera.

    Step 2

Once you have all the components and the batteries or charger it is time to install the siren from the burglar alarm system. The siren goes on an outside wall. You will need a ladder to install the siren because it needs to be out of reach. All you need then is a drill and the screw fixings.

Once the siren is installed it is time to place the other components inside your home. The instructions for testing the components before installation should be followed carefully.

    Step 3

When you know the system is working you can pick the locations for your components including a keypad if you have one.  The components, such as PIR motion sensors, are normally fixed on to the wall or on the ceiling. PIR sensors are normally installed around 2 metres off the floor.

The components and PIR sensors are installed using a drill and the screws and fixing plugs which are normally included in the burglar alarm system.

    Step 4

Once the system is in place you will need to program your keypad which is easily done by following the instructions to press the buttons on the keypad so that you can set up your PIN number.

The PIN number must be keyed in when you leave and enter the house to activate and deactivate the alarm.

If your system is set up with your smartphone you will also need to download the app from the manufacturer which you can do by following the manufacturer’s instructions. It should be an easy process that will take less than 10 minutes to complete.

    Installing a Bell Only Alarm

A bell alarm system is cost-effective. You will need to use a drill and climb a ladder to complete the installation, but it’s not difficult.

    Step 1

First of all, unpack the alarm and make sure the fixings and screws are included. Now take your smartphone and follow the instructions on how to install the app and configure the alarm. This should only take a few minutes.

    Step 2

Take the back cover off the alarm and put in the batteries if none are included. Make sure the batteries inside the siren are working before you install the alarm on your outside wall. You can do this by carrying out a battery test.

    Step 3

Next, you will need your ladder to climb up to the installation location on your outside wall. With a drill, screws, and fixing plugs you can now mount the bracket onto the wall.

    Step 4

Once is it is fixed in place you can fit the alarm onto the bracket.  Many modern bell alarms allow you to configure the volume and the time the bell will ring from your smartphone. For example, you can configure it to ring at its loudest for as long as 10 minutes or as short as 3 minutes.

When the bell is installed and configured, make sure you test it before you want to put it to use.

As you can see installing a burglar alarm system can be done as a DIY project as long as you have a ladder and can use a drill. If you can’t then you can always find a local handyperson or a friend or relative to help you with the installation.

Best Outdoor Security Cameras Without Subscription 2022

Best Outdoor Security Cameras Without Subscription 2022

A security camera is a great piece of technology, that can monitor your home or business indoors and outdoors, giving you peace of mind.

If a criminal breaks in to steal your valuables and damage your property, a security camera will gather evidence that can be used to capture the thief. Therefore, many experts suggest that people should invest money in this security product to protect themselves and their property.

Over time this technology has evolved and now there are many different types of CCTV cameras tailored to specific individuals or organisations.

If in the past you had to struggle with wires when you wanted to set up a camera outdoors and pay high subscription fees, you no longer have to deal with this as there is now a reliable option of wireless cameras. It is amazing that you have the option not to sign up or pay a fee just for additional recording storage.

However, with so many security products available, it can be hard to choose the best one for yourself, especially when you have got no experience purchasing or installing cameras. In this article, we will look at some of the best outdoor security cameras without subscriptions to guide you in the right direction.

    Arlo Pro 4 Spotlight Camera

This one is our personal favourite. Although it does require an Arlo Smart subscription for some of its features, it’s still better than the SimpliSafe Wireless Outdoor Security Camera. The Arlo products are known to many people, however many of them require a hub and wiring, but the wireless Arlo Pro 4 Spotlight Camera on the other hand offers a much better experience where you can view your cameras via an app anywhere and anytime.

The resolution of this camera is high quality, it is weather resistant, captures motion triggered videos, and can cast a bright light over movement. The CCTV camera can be installed in minutes and you can enjoy most of its best features without paying a monthly fee. The videos are sharp and the camera itself looks like other reputable Arlo cameras.

Arlo Pro4 Wireless Home CCTV Video Security Camera, 6-Month Battery, Colour Night Vision, 2K, 2 Way Audio, Built-in Siren, No Hub Needed, 90-Day Free Trial of Arlo Secure Plan, Black

    Product Description
    • 2K VIDEO: Superior image quality on your outdoor video security camera with 12x zoom & 2K HDR video that lets you capture important details with clarity
    • 160° FIELD OF VIEW: Focus on the most vulnerable parts of your property with wide angle 160-degree viewing
    • INTEGRATED SPOTLIGHT: A powerful integrated spotlight on your wireless home CCTV camera lets you see important details in colour even at night, and helps deter intruders
    • WIRELESS & WATERPROOF: Your video security camera is 100% wireless and weather resistant for instant protection you can rely on
    • BUILT-IN SIREN & 2 WAY AUDIO: Trigger siren remotely or have it sound automatically when motion is detected. Hear and speak to visitors using the built-in speaker and microphone on your camera
    • ARLO SERVICE PLANS: Sign up to an Arlo Secure plan and for a small monthly fee unlock advanced features to customize your security. Free 90-day trial included as standard
    • CONNECT DIRECT TO WIFI: No SmartHub required, simply connect to your 2.4Ghz WiFi network for 2x faster installation

    eufyCam 2C Pro

We love that this security camera has zero hidden costs, you get what you see and pay for. Only charged once and don’t have to pay to access your security storage. Of course, it is a wireless outdoor camera that runs on battery, so it works for 180 days from one charge, before needing to be charged again. Like Arlo, it has a 2K video resolution that can be viewed on your eufy security app.

One of the best features is being able to directly communicate with those that approach your home. However, what happens once that footage has been captured? If it gets saved, how secure it is? In this day and age, it is hard to stay safe online, therefore customers value products with privacy.

eufyCam 2C Pro claims that privacy is its priority. Videos are stored locally as it provides more security than if you were to save them in any other facility. Many people believe that this means not being able to access the footage anytime, however, you can still do that via a 256-bit encrypted connection. So, whether it’s your family you want to protect or just yourself – this security camera will be perfect!

eufy Security, eufyCam 2C Pro Wireless Home Security Add-on Camera, 2K Resolution, 180-Day Battery Life, HomeKit Compatibility, IP67 Weatherproof, Night Vision, and No Monthly Fee.

    Product Description
    • 2K Resolution: When it comes to security, the key is in the detail. See exactly what is happening in and around your home in crisp 2K clarity.
    • Half-Year Security from 1 Charge: Avoid frequent trips to charge the battery and enjoy 180-day battery life from just one charge.

    D-Link DCS-8302LH

This security camera can give you complete peace of mind, inside and outside your house. It is a full HD outdoor Wi-Fi CCTV with no subscription required. When looking at its key features, it is very similar to the previously mentioned eufyCam 2C Pro.

It is weather resistant, hence making it perfect for outdoor conditions. It also works during the night with its built-in infrared night vision. This one also has got a two-way audio, so if hearing and speaking to your visitors is a must, then you need this camera.

You will also need it if you prefer to have the choice between a wireless or wired CCTV. Overall, this camera is well-respected in the UK, making it the perfect choice if you are based in this country.

The brand has won several awards for its networking products and is known for good customer service. An astonishing security camera, especially considering that you get so many great features with no hidden, monthly costs.

Last on our list is the SimpliCam 24/7 HD security camera. Although SimpliSafe is a very well known brand in the UK and around the world – we felt like when it comes to good non-subscription cameras, the others on the list fit better. However, this is still a good option if you want to go for something more familiar.

While you don’t need to pay for a monthly plan, it is still recommended to purchase the full SimpliSafe Home Alarm security system alongside the SimpliCam, which means you are still expected to pay more money for a better experience. But you are not required to get it, therefore you still have a choice in regards to that.

However, there is a lack of flexibility as it’s not a wireless camera. You also cannot use the SimpliSafe app without a subscription, which really puts this security camera at a disadvantage. We honestly recommend going for the other three if you’re looking for a high-quality no-subscription camera. However, if this is the only brand you trust, then we think you should go for the SimpliCam.

    SimpliCam 24/7 HD Security Camera

    Product Description
    • Integrate with the SimpliSafe Home Security System (recommended) or use as standalone camera. The system supports up to 10 cameras, so you’ve got all angles covered.
    • See what’s happening in your home using the HD SimpliCam with ultra-wide, 120-degree field of vision. Flawlessly stream live for free on your smartphone, tablet or computer. Subscription required to record and store footage. Plans start from 16p/day, sold separately.
    • Privacy shutter with bank level secure encryption, so only you control when your camera is active.
    • Two-way audio – let intruders know they’re on camera or see who’s at your door. For outdoor placement an outdoor kit is required (sold separately).
    • SimpliCam’s intelligent detection algorithms are calibrated to detect the unique heat signature of humans, so the instant notification alerts you get are the ones that matter.

Companies often put extra features behind a wall. CCTV can already be really expensive so a subscription only adds to the cost. Not everyone has the budget for a high-quality camera plus a monthly fee, therefore people are seeking out other security cameras that fit in with their current circumstances.

If you’re looking for a well-known brand then we recommend Arlo Pro 4 Spotlight Camera. There is also the SimpliCam, however we don’t think it compares to the  former in this case. eufyCam 2C Pro and D-Link DCS-8302LH are both really good if you want to go for a cheaper option with no-subscription costs and good features.

Whatever you decide on, we hope that this post has been helpful!

Why are burglar alarms important? | Ultimate Guide

Why are burglar alarms important? | Ultimate Guide

Burglar alarms warn you when there are intruders at your business or home, reducing the risk of a break-in or burglary.

Imagine how devastating it would be if a burglar laid their eyes on your brand new car and achieved their goal because you left your car keys unattended? This happens to so many people and businesses every year. In fact, it is hard to predict when an opportunist will strike, because they are spur of the moment decisions.

Yet, most people don’t consider getting a burglar alarm. Installing one could potentially save valuable items or information, especially when you are not present.

If you are one of those people, then keep on reading this article to see all the reasons why you must get a burglar alarm.

Protect valuable items and property when nobody is present

How many times have you left your house empty when going on a holiday? Has there ever been a time when you have had to leave your property empty for some period of time? These are the perfect times for burglars to plan a break-in.

While a burglar alarm alone does not guarantee that your home or premises will stay safe at all times, it does give you enough time to notice that something is wrong and act accordingly.

Some alarms even inform authorities which is great when you can’t be there on your own. This gives peace of mind to people knowing that their valuables are safe because there’s something in place to warn them when they’re not there.

It is great to return back home or to work and know that all of your possessions are where they are supposed to be, therefore burglar alarms are important.

    Safe home and work environment

Experiencing a burglary is a distressing situation that nobody wants to be in. We associate burglaries with direct impacts, such as your items getting stolen, and damage to your home or workplace, for example when the opportunist smashes the window and you’re left stressed out to deal with it.

However, there are also huge indirect impacts after a burglary has taken place. For example, if your business is a frequent target because you don’t have an alarm then this could lead to employees feeling unsafe and eventually leaving the job. These events also cause mental stress which can negatively impact one’s health.

The easiest way to avoid this is by installing a burglar alarm in your workplace or home that acts as a deterrent and protects your employees/loved ones.

A burglar alarm is a perfect deterrent

By now you should be able to see why burglars alarms are necessary. Their role is to stop crime before it even happens, reducing the risk of uncomfortable situations happening. Burglaries happen fast, but alarms can deter thieves even quicker, making them a strong deterrent for your home or business.

89% of ex-convicts admitted that they would be deterred from targeting a home with a smart security system.

If you refuse to install an alarm, then burglars will be more likely to target your home or workplace as it doesn’t look well-protected and secure. Burglar alarms create problems for thieves so they could potentially reconsider targeting your property because it might not be worth the effort.

You could even add an extra layer of security and connect the alarm to a monitoring station if you have got one. When the alarm is activated, someone can respond fast and contact the police so that the burglar can be caught. This should make the opportunist think twice before breaking into your property.

Reduce the cost of insurance premiums

This might not apply to all, but some businesses or individuals pay for an insurance policy that covers things like healthcare, auto, home, and life insurance.

The price of the premium depends on factors, such as the type of coverage, your age, your area, claims filed in the past, and moral hazard. Having a burglar alarm in place could reduce the amount of money you need to pay for this premium.

This is because people who have already installed an alarm in their property are more likely not to have experienced major losses in the past because of burglaries, therefore they have not filled any claims in the past. They also show to the insurers that your house or workplace is safe and they don’t have to worry about insuring it.

It could even be possible that you must have an approved alarm receiving centre watching over your burglar alarm system to qualify for this insurance. However, this is more likely to apply if you are a business.

By protecting your valuables, you’re saving money

It is not a secret that the reason why opportunists target our homes and businesses is that they know where the valuable items are. They could take your vehicle car keys, jewellery, mobile phones, electronics, and even personal information.

The fact is that burglars alarms are effective when it comes to protecting your valuables. These could be really expensive items or cheaper ones, but you still lose a good amount of money when a break-in happens. However, if you’re not comfortable doing so, you can always schedule a professional installation. But that will come at the cost of $79. Moreover, you get features like:

If the system experiences a problem, you can always claim an exchange or a refund since it comes with a three-year warranty. If you want a free-of-cost subscription plan, you’ll have to monitor everything yourself.

However, by paying $14.99 every month, you’ll get more services, such as automatically informing the cops about the intrusion and sending them your way in case of a dire emergency.

An additional benefit is that if you pay $10 extra, the police response will be more enhanced as there will be video verification to catch such intrusion. SimpliSafe accesses the cameras and operates much better to work with the police to prevent such unfortunate events.
